About Me

In 1990s Paris, I wandered into a cinema and left obsessed with the reprobrate glamour of the Nouvelle Vague. Film criticism led me into other areas of the arts: theatre, painting, photography and books. From The European I moved to Metro, then The Guardian; was Arts Editor of Time Out and Editor of Metropolitan, the trilingual magazine on Eurostar, and did a stint as Chief Editor for Save the Children. These days I live between London and Burgundy and write about wine, food, the arts (sometimes) and occasionally, as when I tried to cross the Mediterranean by ferry, travel for its own sake. How did I go to bed one night an arts editor and wake up a wine writer? I honestly don't know. It must have been a hell of a bottle.
