LOUIS ROEDERER WINE BOOK OF THE YEAR 2018
FORTNUM & MASON
DEBUT DRINK BOOK OF THE YEAR 2019
ABOUT MY BOOK
The Wandering Vine is a travel book that rambles through modern vineyards and ancient ruins from England to Italy via France and Spain. It is easier than you might think to share a drink with the dead: wine dissolves all boundaries, enabling us to travel – to ancient Rome or medieval Burgundy or 1980s England – in the time it takes to raise a glass. Join me for a meander through times and places and bottles, as I revive long-forgotten vinous stories in an attempt to bring my own past, and the vine's, back to life.

"We all invent stories, about the history of the vines and the taste of the wines. We cannot help ourselves. We reach out, with fingertips and tongues, and create coherence and connections where we cannot bear to believe that none exist. The search for a binding narrative is a comfort for those things we will never see or hear or touch again..."
